Belleview - 1890

Built by Eben Hall in 1890 as a rental unit.  Sold to Franklin and Hattie Pond in 1898, then to Dr. Benjamin Croft in 1901.   A couple years later, Croft sold the cottage back to the Ponds.   According to Floyd Humphries, their youngest daughter Lucy Pond sold to the Hales when she moved to California with her friend Antoinette White, where they spent the rest of their lives.  According to John Howland: "Clarence and Bertha Hale bought it in 1923 and lived there for 30 years until Clarence died in 1953... Clarence was a Wesleyan man who became a professor in the New York State System in Albany. An avid boatman, he was envied by Heronites as he docked at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club instead of the town float. A loved person: Bertha was one of our top bridge players (like my father) and, on Saturdays, would put beans on to bake all day in the oven in the cottage basement. No children. spent the rest of their lives."  John and Jane Howland bought the cottage after Clarence Hale's death, in 1953.  Sold in 2000 to the Jenkinson/Brett clan, who have named the cottage 'Belleview'.
